Rehabilitation
The team of rehabilitation specialists at PCH work together in the
areas of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and
Audiology, to help patients get back their skills of living. Each
department works closely with PCH Orthopedic and Family Practice physicians in developing and implementing a therapy regimen, designed to
meet the individual needs of patients. This personalized service is what
makes PCH Rehabilitation a step above the rest.
Newly renovated in 2000, the Rehabilitation Department consists of a
full-service, Physical Therapy unit, complete with state-of-the-art
rehabilitative equipment and individual hydrotherapy room. The
Occupational Therapy unit simulates a home atmosphere, with a full kitchen
and bathroom, and individual treatment rooms are used for Speech Therapy
and Audiology.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy gives individuals skills for the job of
living with customized treatment
programs aimed at improving the daily
activities of living. PCH Occupational Therapy treats individuals of all
ages, including children with developmental delays; individuals with
work-related injuries; individuals recovering from stroke or heart attack;
and individuals with Arthritis or multiple sclerosis.
Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy assists individuals in restoring lost body
functions or in adapting their lifestyles to accommodate those lost
functions. PCH Physical Therapy works with both children and adult
patients in establishing realistic rehabilitation goals. The department
instructs and assists with techniques designed to increase strength where
lost body functions are concerned, and also assists patients in coping
with long-term disabilities.
PCH Youth Rehabilitation Center
In 2002, the Rehabilitation Department expanded its services
with the opening of a Youth Rehabilitation Center in Piketon, which serves
PCH youth outpatients, birth to school-aged children, in the capacities of
Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech Therapy. The Center
offers comprehensive rehabilitation in a large gross motor and sensory
gym, along with two individual treatment areas in a distraction-free
environment. Children with developmental delays or who have been diagnosed
with disorders such Down's Syndrome, benefit through the Rehabilitation
Center.
