Diagnostic Imaging
The PCH Diagnostic Imaging Department
brings together nine types of imaging modalities and procedures, including
Bone Densitometry, CT Scan,
Echocardiography, Fluoroscopy, General Radiology, Magnetic Resonance
Imaging (MRI), Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound.
These techniques are used to view internal structures in the patients body
without using invasive surgery, enabling physicians and caregivers to make
accurate patient care decisions.
The department is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week by a staff
of highly qualified technologists and is under the medical direction of
board certified Radiologists, who read and interpret all patient scans and
results. Newly constructed in 2000, the
Diagnostic Imaging Department is centrally located within the hospital to
meet the needs of all hospital departments, at all times of the day.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Center
On the cutting edge of
technology, PCH completed an MRI Center in 2002, complete with waiting and
registration / reception areas for patient comfort and privacy. MRI is
designed to produce views of body structures superior to other imaging
modalities. It has been proven to be very effective for diagnosing and
studying the progression of many types of conditions affecting various
tissues and organs within a person's body. More information about MRI
Services.
General Radiology &
Fluoroscopy
Two rooms house the
general X-ray and fluoroscopic unit, along with a portable unit for
studies performed at the patient's bedside on the medical-surgical unit
and in the Hospital's emergency department, surgery department, and
intensive care unit.
CT Scans
CT scans are continuously
available and performed on both a scheduled and emergency basis. The CT
Scan at PCH can perform complete scans in one to seven minutes and are
helpful in diagnosing
Mammography
A three room suite for
Mammography patients includes an education room, a procedure room, and a
room for follow-up exams, if necessary. The Mammography services at PCH
offers the best in state-of-the-art technology and accurate care, and
performs base-line exams, post-surgical exams, and needle-guided biopsies.
Mammography is available by making an appointment Monday through Friday
from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Pike Community Hospital is certified as a
Softer Mammogram Provider.
Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine at PCH is used for diagnostic and treatment purposes.
Nuclear Medicine uses a small amount of radioactive substance to view an
internal image of the body, demonstrating organ functions and structure.
